July 2017 News

Peach Pit

As many of you saw, our sweet girl from Fayette County Animal Control, now called Peach Pit, had three healthy puppies yesterday! She has two girls and a boy, whose names we’ll take votes on soon!

Nikki

Meet Nikki, our gorgeous black lab mix! Nikki was previously a wild dog who lived with extremely limited contact with humans, only seeking out her caretaker for food and shelter. When Nikki was finally caught a last week, she was already pregnant and incredibly shy. Nikki is thriving in her foster home and is learning that humans are pretty great!

The Tiny Tabbies

This crew of eight is just TOO CUTE for words! The Tiny Tabbies, along with their mom Baby, are in foster and can be adopted on August 30th!

Adoptions

This month we had a bunch of adoptions which is awesome! Heather, Harry, Helena, Hooch, Harlee, Blitz, Mojo, the H litter puppies, and a bunch of kittens were adopted by great families. Congratulations to all!

K9 Car Cruise

We’ve been invited to the Kane Foundation’s K9 Car Cruise! Please join us on Saturday August 12th from 10-2 at the Waterfront in Homestead to meet our crew!

Pledge to Save Lives!

Great news! Wizard, our terrier mix, was adopted today! 🙂

On the other hand, we are still swamped with momma cats and their kittens (three litters so far) and dog intake requests (we have three more dogs coming in this week!). We CANNOT continue to help animals without our community support! Even five dollars goes a long way towards a spay or neuter or a bag of food!

Please give what you can!

Adoptable!: Peanut, and Cookie; Adopted!: Wizard

Wizard, Peanut, and Cookie are three cute brothers who are looking for a new family or families!
Please read the entire post before contacting us about these precious guys!

Wizard is a seven-year-old (July 2010) neutered male terrier mix weighing about 25 pounds. He is laid back, friendly, and would make a great addition to any household! He would likely prefer a home without very young children under six, as he’s very mellow and probably would appreciate those with a similar lifestyle. 🙂 Wizard is small-medium sized, fully house trained and crate trained, vaccinated, neutered, flea free, and ready to go! He is good with other dogs, fine with respectful children, and unknown with cats and other animals.

Peanut is a two-year-old (July 2015) neutered male dachshund weighing about 17 pounds. He is a bit wary of strangers, but warms up quickly to understanding people! Like Wizard, Peanut has been raised with young, respectful children, but would do best in a home without children under six, as he does not want to be picked up or chased. Peanut is a bit anxious, and will alert bark at strangers coming into the house, but is not aggressive or yappy. Peanut is small-sized, house trained (with rare incidents of nervous peeing) and crate trained, vaccinated, neutered, flea free, and ready to go! He is good with other dogs, okay with respectful children, and unknown with cats and other animals.

Cookie is a two-year-old (July 2015) neutered male chihuahua weighing about 12 pounds. He is a bit wary of strangers, but warms up quickly to understanding people! Like Wizard and Peanut, Cookie has been raised with young, respectful children, but would do best in a home without children under six, as he does seems to prefer calm, quiet environments where he won’t be chased or grabbed. Cookie is not aggressive or yappy. Cookie is small-sized, house trained and crate trained, vaccinated, neutered, flea free, and ready to go! He is good with other dogs, okay with respectful children, and unknown with cats and other animals.
Peanut and Cookie are EXTREMELY bonded and will NOT be separated for adoption. They MUST be adopted together, as they have been together since they were four months old.
Wizard is adoptable for a fee of $100, and Peanut and Cookie are adoptable together for a fee of $150.

Update: Fred!

He’s in the process of getting certified to be a therapy dog. He loves his new home and watching Grey’s Anatomy with the room mates every night. He loves walks on the trail and hates getting up early. He’s come to work with me. He’s so good with adults with autism spectrum disorders. He’s super gentle and patient with them.

Adopted!: Stella the Chihuahua

Stella is awesome! Born February 1st, 2017, Stella is still young, learning and growing before our eyes! We can’t say quite what it is about her, but she has really charmed everyone she’s met since coming to foster two weeks ago. Stella goes nearly everywhere with us, to the park, to brunch, to the store, and to the greenhouse! She even likes to shower when we do.

Stella is a silly girl who loves to cuddle, rides well in the car, and greets every day with enthusiasm! She is nearly fully potty trained and has had her first vaccinations. Weighing in at a whopping three pounds and six inches tall, we would prefer a home for Stella without children under ten years old due to the fragile nature of a chihuahua’s bones.

Stella would be an excellent candidate for a therapy or service dog!

Adoptable!: Chloe the Cocker Spaniel

DSC_8153

Chloe the cocker spaniel had a rough start in life!

We don’t know too much about Chloe’s early life, but we do know that once she left her breeder, she was often left alone in her kennel, she was underfed, and she wasn’t properly socialized during her critical puppy period! After all that, Chloe was left with a groomer “for the weekend” when her original owner supposedly went on vacation. When the groomer tried to return Chloe to her owner, the owner simply said, “I absolutely cannot take her back.”

We’re not sure how anyone could abandon a puppy as sweet and loving as Chloe! Chloe is almost fully potty trained, sleeps well in her crate, and gets along well with other dogs and cats! Chloe is incredibly smart and learns fast, so she would be a great puppy for someone willing to put in time with her! 🙂

Finch and Wren

Finch (moderate CH) and Wren (mild CH) head home together this weekend! I’m so glad to have found them a home where they can stay together and have other kitties, CH and non-CH, to grow up with!
